Game for sega genesis or nintendo 64?

i don't know the name of the game or which system it is for. i know that you play as this male character that has magic powers. you have to fight monsters some of which are rats. as you level up you are able to use more magic. i think the character has blond hair. i remember a castle. i think it fell down or something. that's all i remember.
