Is my boyfriend right?

Okay, so me and my brother's old friend is coming up to visit this weekend and wanted us to go to the movies with him. We haven't seen him in 3 years so we really want to hang out. Me and the guy used to like eachother but then lost interest.We never dated..i was only 11. I lost my feelings for him 5 years ago. I have a boyfriend of 8 months now and I love him and he says he knows i do and says he trusts me, but he has a huge problem with me going. He got all depressed when I said I was going. Now I told him I wouldn't go so he's all just so happy now. But I really wanna hang out with this guy since we used to be such great friends. so is my boyfriend right? is it wrong for me to go? sorry its longish...
